MICHIGAN SEX OFFENDERS

COST OF REPORT:  $9.95   [ORDER ONLINE]

The Michigan Legislature passed the Sex Offenders Registration Act in 1999. The Michigan Sex Offender Registry is updated daily at 6.00 a.m. CST. The information is obtained from local law enforcement agencies when Sexual Offenders register with those local agencies. Text of the Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act can be viewed HERE.

1.Q.  What information is required to obtain information from the registry?

A:  All persons convicted of one of the listed offenses on or after October 1, 1995(when the SOR legislation took effect) and those persons who were convicted prior to that date who were still incarcerated, on parole or probation for that offense on 10/01/95 must be registered. All offenders are entered locally by a criminal justice agency that dealt with the offender. Offenders must be registered after conviction, and prior to sentencing.

5.  Q.  I know an offender who was convicted of one of the listed offenses who currently is incarcerated in jail or prison, but his/her name is not on the list.  Why don’t I see it?

A: The SOR shows the address for offenders who are currently out in the community. Until the incarcerated offender is released from custody, you will not see the name on the SOR. Also, those offenders who were adjudicated as a juvenile will not appear on the SOR (except that those persons adjudicated for either CSC 1 or CSC 2 will appear on the list upon reaching their 18th birthday.)

9.  Q.  How often must registered offenders verify that they live at the address listed?

A:  Offenders convicted of any degree of Criminal Sexual Conduct (CSC 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th degree) or any felony offense must verify their address during the first fifteen days of January, April, July, and October each year they are registered. Those offenders convicted of a simple misdemeanor must verify their address during the first fifteen days of January each year they are registered.

10.  Q.  How long do convicted sex offenders remain on the SOR listing?

A:  Depending upon the charge, offenders will remain on the SOR for 25 years, or for life. (Offenders released from prison must remain on the list for a minimum of 10 years. For example, if an offender served twenty years in prison for one of the listed offenses, upon release he/she would have to remain on the SOR for ten years.)

This information is updated regularly, to try to assure that it is complete and accurate.  However, this information can change quickly.  You are cautioned that the information provided in this site search is information of record and may not reflect the current residence, status, or other information regarding a registrant (offender).

Sex offenders have always lived in our communities; but it wasn't until the passage of the sex and child offender registration act that the law enforcement even knew where they were living. In many cases, this information is now available to enhance public safety and protection.

WARNING: Abuse of this information to threaten, intimidate or harass registered sex offenders will not be tolerated. Further, such abuse could potentially end the ability to provide this information. We believe the only person who wins if this ends is the offender, since sex offenders derive their power through secrecy.
