How long
must a person remain registered as a sex offender and how
often are they required to register?
A sex offender who is required to register must register
in person annually for a 10-year period. A sex offender
sentenced to probation will start his/her 10 year
registration period from the date of his conviction or if
sentenced to a hospital or Department of Corrections, the
10-year period starts from the date of parole, release or
discharge.
If the sex
offender registers earlier than the annual renewal date,
will this shorten the amount of time the sex offender is
required to register?
No, if the sex offender registers early, the next
anniversary date will be one year from that date until the
10-year registration requirement is up.

but it wasn't until the passage of the sex and child

knew where they were living. In many cases, this
information is now available to enhance public safety and
protection.
